Event information

Children For Breakfast really couldn't be more excited to bring the wonderful XIU XIU to Sheffield for the first time (since what was possibly the last time of which I have no knowledge) Having been a massively lauded cult band for the last decade they've just taken a bit of a push into the mainstream conscious with Jamie Stewart featuring on Los Campesinos' new record!

This tour is to support a new record out in the new year titled 'Dear God, I Hate Myself' Details here: http://drownedinsound.com/news/4138488

Xiu Xiu (pronounced [ʃuː ʃuː], shoe-shoe)
An experimental band originally from San Jose, California and currently based in Durham, NC and Brooklyn The band is named after the main character of the 1998 Chinese film Tian yu (a.k.a. Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl).

Xiu Xiu was first formed in 2000 and is the main project of singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart, who records with friends on his home computer. Past members include Cory McCulloch, Lauren Andrews and Yvonne Chen. Stewart’s cousin, Caralee McElroy joined the band in 2003 and was the only other permanent member of the band until her departure in early 2009. Some, including McCulloch, have played in previous bands with Stewart such as Ten in the Swear Jar and IBOPA.

'..Like the mosaic-pop of Dirty Projectors, [with] twists and turns guided by fiendish logic' NME

'Splendid Californian miserablists' Drowned In Sound

'A profusion of all things twisted, wrecked, corrupt and sour and terrified. All I want to do is dive in and roll around in its richness. Clearly in the debt of post-punk, one that has cut up and contorted itself to fit into the few cracks that albums in the past haven't reached' Pitchfork

'Extremely crass gay lyrics which fluctuated between brilliant and stupid and managed to get the high density bear crowd emoting all over the place. I really couldn’t decide whether I liked him or not but I felt fairly compelled to continue watching him' Artrocker

With support from the excellent Leed's band:
BLOOD ORANGES

Sounds like; Olympia, Washington 1982 / Salford, Manchester 1984 / Glasgow, Scotland 1986 / Stockton, California 1992 / Cardiff, Wales 2007

'An intelligent music fans band, guys with beards will like them, and boys in skinny jeans will pretend to like them to look cool. older music fans will also like them cos of their influences; The music is catchy and fresh, whilst the vocals are quite unusual for the modern age: emotional and haunting, they really draw you in!' Strangeways

'C86 Pop Hits - Like Los Campesinos if they'd layed off the energy drinks!' Children For Breakfast

'Evoking memories of the C86 scene. Boy/Girl vocals that we love so much, the recordings are innocent, shambolic and romantic. We are looking forward to catching them very soon!' Good Form Club

and Sheffield's bloody brilliant
URGENT TALK making a triumphant live return!

This city's finest experimental bleep and strings adventure poppers formed from the ashes of HEARTYEAH are a completely different animal.

Having just released two excellent EPs & and && they are keen to bring these to life.

"UT take their cues more from M83's blissed-out take on shoegaze/electronica ('I Love Our Network)', or The Unicorns at their most bleepy and playful" DROWNED IN SOUND

"Urgent Talk are therefore a noisy, energetic, (arguable) pop band with everything going for them. They are, in short, incredible...Urgent Talk’s existence is definitely a massive win for the universe" LINE OF BEST FIT

With guest DJs and other stuff that you won't read about because we had you at Xiu Xiu.
