Café Carbon is a musical performance that considers the consumption and production of food from pre-historic times to the present day. Gina Birch, Kaffe Matthews and Hayley Newman, aka The Gluts, performed Café Carbon in the streets, bars and restaurants of Copenhagen during the 2009 Climate Summit. Wearing strangely fashionable up-cycled carbon-coloured costumes, the group invited the public to select songs from an indulgent menu including; starter (Stone Cold Soup); main (A Grand Buffet); and dessert (Sanity or Madness).
The resultant video made by Birch tells the story of their extraordinary journey and will be shown tonight as well as the full Café Carbon menu for your choosing.
Café Carbon has received support from the Arts Council of England and has just been performed at the AV festival 2010, Gateshead.
