MARY AND THE BABY CHEESES (Berlin)
www.myspace.com/maryandthebabycheeses
We hosted Marya Ocher’s solo performance in the first edition of MOTHER, last year. Her acoustic apocalyptic folk songs it has been bewitched us. Like a special creature in which is tangible the concoction of mash-cultures she comes from, expressed through an original surreal wave, between post theather, vaudeville delirium and rivisited rivista. This year we have the plesure to entroduce the Mary And The Baby Cheeses: the band was born in december 2006 in Tel Aviv, influenced by the first wave of industrial music, the 1970’s avant-garde and some bits of 2000’s weird-folk revival, later turned into a lo-fi cabaret/garage all-girl act based in Berlin. Now is something rather odd and theatrical with a wide range of influences, from 1950’s pop to disco-electro, all through the different decades of the previous century.

THE KONKI DUET (Paris)
www.myspace.com/thekonkiduet
The Konki Duet is an illuminate trio. Kumi solo project is defined: three times Pop! Zoe every sunday morning uses to develope brilliant guitar cover versions from classic Hit and Tam loves to play violin like a natural extension of herself. Together they are a complex and inflammable fusion of elements: three times Post! Rock, experimental pop, French-listening with articulate instrumental arrangements and softly voices. After two albums (Il Fait Tout Gris, 2004, Mountain Mouton, 2006) and one 5 tracks EP (Ensemble, 2009) under the sublime and eclectic Paris based label Active Suspension, The Konki Duet always surprise with their magical blend of almost everything: minimal desert-rock, j-pop, post dub.

PENS (London)
www.myspace.com/shakeitshakeitnow
“Three girls and a £1 microphone”
Basic like a brick. The essential sound of Pens makes fascinating song through hypnotizing non-chalant garage pop. The bass and the guitar are couched in a collage directly glue to b-brack synthesizer and primordial drum. Simple rhythms that arrive deep like a fracture. From the band a list of splits and tapes shared with Dum Dum Girls, Graffiti Island, Male Bonding. Out now the 7” single ‘you ONLY LIKE ME/LOVE RULES’ for De Stijl Records. Something like a phenomenon.

PHOEBE JEAN & KIRIKOO DES (New York/Paris)
www.myspace.com/shakeitshakeitnow
In the beginning there were Phoebe Jean & The Air Force, originally from the dirty streets of Baltimore, then stopping in New York and finally making her way around the European scene. Phoebe Jean brings big soul and big beats in a dazzling sounds cluster through bubbling synth riff and deliberately acrylic production powering through passionate and tempestuous lyrics. She works now in Paris in collaboration with Kirikoo Des who has brought his own piece of genuine sexy outer space free jazz hacker geek dance style revolution to the drum machine and mix. Out soon the PJ&KD first album for the cult Parisian label Tsunami-Addiction.

MOTHER is an independent travelling project dedicated to wowmen’s contemporary music and art. It has neither a residence nor an institutional form. This d.i.y. project consists of a series of three festivals over three years, each one in a different country, culminating in a navigation of the world in the form of an ephemeral triangle. MOTHER was created by Dafne Boggeri and Noga Inbar, the edition of 2010 is curated with the support of NicoleEmmenegger (aka DJ Jenny Woolworth) www.jennywoolworth.ch
