DA DOO RON RON It's ALIVE!#6 Presents:-

THE NUNS - It's Nun time!

http://www.myspace.com/itsnuntime

The NUNS are an all-girl 6-piece band (featuring ex-members of Curve, Echobelly, Thee Headcoatees, & Mambo Taxi) who worship cult 60s garagemeisters THE MONKS. In tribute, the THE NUNS don nuns habits & perform truly A.Ma.Zing versions of their songs.

Artists who've cited The Monks as an influence include The White Stripes, Henry Rollins, the Beastie Boys and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, as well as the mighty Fall. The Fall covered both "I Hate You" and "Oh, How to Do Now" on their 1990 album Extricate (under the titles "Black Monk Theme Part I" and "Black Monk Theme Part II", respectively), as well as the song "Shut Up!" on their 1994 album Middle Class Revolt. The White Stripes named The Monks as one of their key influences, noting that "their melodies were pop destructive."

The tribute-band concept was brainstormed by NUNS organist Andrea (formerly of Mambo Taxi) and Banjo Debbie (Curve, Echobelly). Subsequently, the pair brought in Delia (Mambo Taxi), Headcoatees drummer Bongo Debbie and Priscillas bassist Katie Kannibal. The final piece fell in place when Banjo Debbie met Irish singer Lolo (of The Nanny Maze) at a London gig the re-formed Monks played in 2006. Perfectly, Lolo’s mother was an actual nun for five years in the sixties.

The Nuns love the dressing-up aspect, but make no mistake: their obsession runs deep. The simple question “Why The Monks?” leads to a passionate, everyone-talking-at-once debate on the many facets of The Monks’ brilliance. YouTube clips are cited as evidence, and it’s concluded that The Monks were a Velvet Underground without an Andy Warhol.

A Monks tribute band named The Nuns ... it seems an idea too good to have been sitting idle for 40 years. Andrea: “You get some blokes saying, ‘I thought about doing that,’ and you say, ‘Well, you effin' didn’t, did you? And we did!’”

THE UGLY SISTERS
Do you believe in ... GARAGE BEFORE MARRIAGE?

http://www.myspace.com/uglysistersmusic
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Ugly-Sisters/170690947565?ref=ts

THE UGLY SISTERS are a good-time garage 4-piece, taking their cues from the youthful abandon of the surf music and girl groups of the sixties and scuzzing them up into their own brand of ramshackle punk. They come on like some kind of bastardised backstreet Beatles with their triple vocal attack. Think Black Lips, Ramones, Jay Reatard, Mummies, Eighties Matchbox. They ain't sisters - hey, they ain't even girls! - but they sure sound UGLY, in the best possible way!
