Event information

Arctic Circle present the London launch of Emily's new album 'Almanac' which is due for release on Feb 7th 2011.

EMILY BARKER & THE RED CLAY HALO

Emily Barker hails from a tiny rural backwater in the remote south west of Western Australia.

At 19, Emily donned a backpack and head out to travel the world. In 2002 she found herself in Cambridge where she met local guitar extraordinaire Rob Jackson (Boo Hewerdine/Broken Family Band/Eddie Reader.) They teamed up for a few songs at The Cambridge Folk Festival, went down a storm and henceforth formed a band called 'the-low-country' who went on to release 2 albums ('Welcome to the-low-country' and 'The Dark Road'), and enjoyed several plays on John Peel's show.

In October 2005, Emily won both Country song of the year and Regional song of the year at the prestigious Annual West Australian Music Song writing Awards. She's a great singer and a sublime acoustic guitarist, but Emily Barker's real passion is storytelling.....

Emily has most recently been joined by 'The Red Clay Halo', an all-female trio consisting of Anna Jenkins, Jo Silverston and Gill Sandell who play violin, cello, accordion and flute respectively. They also all do backing vocals creating mesmerising 4-part harmonies. There new album is released 'Almanac' was is due for release on February 7th.

'Stripped free of studio frippery and all the better for its carefree simplicity' **** - Q Magazine

'The hills have yet to be emptied of gold if you know where to look.' - The Times

ADRIAN CROWLEY

Crowley, recently awarded Ireland's Choice Music Prize for Album of the Year, conveys a morose and morbid introspection, with icy strings, organ chords and mournful harmonium creating beautiful and ghostly compositions

On his latest album ''Season Of The Sparks':

"Crowley has come of age, he has moved up several levels in one bound.. from apprentice to grandmaster." - Jim Carroll (The Irish Times) , May 2009.

"Crowley's most consistently beautiful album yet" **** (4 stars) The Irish Times

"The current Adrian Crowley record should get 8 out of 5.Unfortunatley I'm not allowed to do this so 5 it is" - ***** (5 stars) Hot Press

JO MANGO

Jo Mango is uniquely gifted as a musician and as a performer. She writes the most beautiful songs and her sense of fun in life has made this last year that I have been on the road with her a luminous one. Kind, original, musical and clever I know Jo will go far. Vashti Bunyan

She collaborated on performances with cult new-folk figures Vashti Bunyan, Devendra Banhart, as well as more established folkies Donovan, Eddi Reader and many more. Along the way she even found herself showing REM's Michael Stipe how to play the Kalimba!
