Launched at Ronnie Scott's in 2005, Ambulance is a highly original five-piece band of young and ambitious musicians, many of whose evocative compositions were inspired, they say, by “the beautiful Suffolk coastlines, fresh fish and Adnams beer” they experienced during a six week residency at the Snape Maltings venue at Alderburgh in 2006.
Bassist Arnie Somogyi is a much-sought after musician, composer and bandleader who has played with many of the world's top jazz musicians from James Moody, Bobby Hutcherson and Art Farmer, to Joey Calderazzo and Bud Shank.
Tim Lapthorn is developing into one of Britain’s most exceptional young pianists, described as ‘brilliant' by Humphrey Lyttelton and ‘electrifying' by Jazz Review.
Saxophonist Paul Booth plays regularly at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London with both his own band and other musicians, and has toured several times under his own name with the New Couriers, Mike Garrick Big Band, and the Laurence Cottle Quartet/Big Band.
Rob Townsend on sax, woodwind and laptop is not just a musical virtuoso, but master of innovative new digital ideas, bringing fresh new sampling and sound manipulation technologies to the Ambulance mix.
Dave Smith is one of the finest young drummers on the British jazz scene, who has performed with John Dankworth, Peter King, Bobby Wellins and Stan Sulzmann.
