A Christmas concert celebrating the masters of high baroque, Bach and Handel.

Bach’s Mass in G Minor is one of the four Lutheran Masses. Influential 19th century teacher and composer Zelter claimed the mass to be one of Bach’s “superior pieces”. A rare opportunity to hear this wonderful under-rated and under-recorded work.

The highly successful and sociable Handel enjoyed aristocratic and royal patronage, writing the anthem “Sing unto God," for the wedding of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and Augusta, Princess of Saxe-Gotha in 1736.

Handel was a selfless and generous composer. He wrote the "Foundling Hospital Anthem" to raise money to complete the hospital’s unfinished chapel. The text is mostly drawn from the Psalms, whilst the final movement may be familiar to some of you!
