Skylark Song

Growing out of a mutual love of warm melodies, close harmonies and the odd natural lyrical reference Skylark Song playinghaunting, English folk with a blues edge that is forever lurking somewhere on the periphery. Over the last two years they have steadily built up a strong reputation as one of the most exciting folk acts in the North East. http://skylarksong.bandcamp.com/

He was given his first set of pipes on his 15th birthday and nine months later won the Northumbrian Pipers’ Society Junior Class. Horizontal Sunday

Horizontal Sunday are three graduates of the Folk and Traditional Degree course at Newcastle University, who play a wide variety of traditional and self-penned folk music on melodeon, fiddle and clàrsach. Since forming in 2010, they have regularly performed throughout the UK headlining their own gigs as well as performing with many renowned artists, including Maddy Prior, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham and KAN. http://www.horizontalsunday.co.uk/

George Welch and Stewart Hardy

Together, for more than ten years, they have indulged in a “busman’s holiday” - playing for the sheer pleasure of doing so and delighting audiences with the characteristic spontaneity which is the hallmark of their unashamedly shambolic (but in a good way) show. George’s hilarious stories give way to lilting melodies, driving tunes and moving songs, delivered with a baritone voice that has the richness of molasses. Once you have heard George perform his songs, accompanied by his own guitar playing and Stewart’s fiddle, you will not be left in any doubt that the success of this highly entertaining duo is built on solid musical foundations. http://www.stewarthardy.co.uk/performanceGeorgeWelchStewartHardy.htm

The Horse Loom

Northumbrian guitarist and singer Steve Malley has been described as the best acoustic guitar player in the country, the most unique marriage between British folk music, avant garde guitar playing and punk rock spirit. Make up your own mind when you hear him at the Allen Valleys Folk Festival. http://www.thehorseloom.com/

Jonny Kearney

Another graduate of Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Degree course, Jonny is a local singer and songwriter who has won accolades from many critics for his recordings and performances with Lucy Farrell www.facebook.com/pages/Jonny-Kearney-and-Lucy-Farrell/345951389662

Michael Chapman

‘Michael Chapman was never just a singer-songwriter - his gritty brand of guitar based songs span folk, ragtime, jazz and blues... that world-weary voice singing words of bitter experience. This man is so laid back that he makes JJ Cale sound like he's on helium.’ http://www.michaelchapman.co.uk/
