Rick Simpson's Klammer:

George Crowley - tenor saxophone
Michael Chillingworth - alto saxophone/bass clarinet/tenor saxophone
Ralph Wyld - vibraphone
Rick Simpson - keys
Tom Farmer - double bass
Dave Hamblett - drums

Klammer play original music written by Simpson with a focus on through-composition, complex ensemble playing and modern textures/rhythms with enough space for soloists to shine. Composition influences include The Claudia Quintet, David Binney, Django Bates, Jason Moran, Dan Weiss and our contemporaries on the London Jazz Scene such as Brass Mask, Dice Factory and Liam Noble.

"There is a lot going on in this music: frequent shifts in time signature, tempo and feel, tricky rhythmic figures, highly textured percussive punctuation, unnerving close, Monkish harmonies, as well as beautiful lyrical elements, sometimes laid down as a vamped backdrop, sometimes draped over the top while the horns intone an insistent bell-like line. On several occasions, we were all lulled at times into a false sense of security (in a good way) before someone fired a salvo and the whole thing headed off in a different and unexpected direction." from Sarah Chaplin's LJF review.

Alex Munk Quartet:

Featuring Alex Munk on guitar, Matt Robinson on fender rhodes/keyboards, Conor Chaplin on electric bass and Dave Hamblett on drums, The Alex Munk Quartet combines mammoth riffs with explosive improvisation.

Embracing the frenzied rhythmic patchworks of Tigran Hamasyan and the visceral roar of guitar whiz Wayne Krantz, thick, sonorous basslines merge with pounding drums and luscious soundscapes to hypnotic effect.
But it’s not all stomping grooves. There are triumphant themes, knotty hooks, pearly pools of sound reminiscent of Bill Frisell. And the whole lot is shot through with Munk’s love for the melodic directness of blues and rock.
Ever since their debut set heads thrashing at the hallowed ground of Camden’s Con Cellar Bar, this band now looks set to become a main fixture on the UK jazz scene.

"A wonderful young guitarist with a unique musical voice" Stan Sulzmann
