Event information

A one-off night of odd sounds, ridiculous beats and LIVE F-STEP - learn about the made-up genre that fooled the world of drum and bass.

FFFEATURING:

* DJs ABEL AND CANE
https://soundcloud.com/djs-abel-cane/tracks

F-Step's estranged originators are reunited for a rare live show. The creators of the O-F scratching method, the ho down and djembe hoovering break new ground with their intense performances. Expect drills, mandrills, face-bass and another 10 years before they are allowed to perform again. Are you ready to stop, drop and roll?

* METALOGUE

* VITAMIN F

Max van Gierth emerged from the veld of his native South Africa in the dark winter of 1974 armed only with a hoover and a twisted penchant for 'brutal music'. When he discovered F-step he knew he'd found his calling and has dedicated the years since to perfecting this art form. We are lucky to witness a rare live performance by the masked mamparra.

* F GIRL 74

On 8th July 1974, KGB chairman Yuri Andropov ordered informants across the USSR to "stop denouncing your neighbours and listen to this sick tape I found at the car boot sale". Rumours of ensuing "proto-F-Step hysteria" were suppressed with violence; what is documented is that Andropov was briefly hospitalised for "drop-related injuries". FGirl74 finally reveals the music that threatened the Soviet Union that fateful night.

* DEREK THE RACONTEUR

Of all the Dereks in the world, there's only one who is a raconteur. And it isn't this guy. But this guy does have a story to tell: about making up an absurd genre of music and the things that happened next. Warning: his talk may feature drum and bass, PowerPoint, and animated gifs.

Doors 7:30, the caning continues until midnight.
