Heaven’s Gate are delighted to present for the music loving community of Liverpool and Merseyside the Americana Music Association UK award winner (best song 2019 for ‘Southern Wind’) Dean Owens with The Southerners (two super musicians, Tom Collison and Jim Maving, already well known to Heaven’s Gate audiences having previously appeared at 81 Renshaw with Don Gallardo, Amelia White, Hannah Rose Platt and Case Hardin).
Support comes from Liverpool’s own John Jenkins and, a solo performance from Jody Davies from southern rockers Fargo Railroad Company.
Dean Owens is one Scotland’s finest singer/songwriters. Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skilfully crafted stories and memorably heart-twisting melodies, he is a compelling and engaging live performer, providing an emotional hurricane of stories and songs.
In September 2017 he became the first Scottish musician to officially showcase at the prestigious Americanafest in Nashville. His visit included a guest spot with the Mavericks at their “allstar” show at the Basement East and, gained him a mention in Rolling Stone magazine.
2018 saw the release of his 7th, highly acclaimed, album ‘Southern Wind’ on At The Helm Records and earlier this year its title track received the accolade of ‘best UK song 2019’ at the AMAUK Awards. As well as many headline shows in his own right, Dean has also supported the likes of Jason Isbell, Gretchen Peters, Rosanne Cash and Patti Griffin.
Jody Davies is lead singer with Sheffield based, southern rockers the Fargo Railroad Company who have built themselves an impressive fan base with both their obvious love of being on stage and their gritty, rootsy music influenced by Lynyrd Skynyrd, the 70s sounds of Dylan, Young and Cash, and, contemporary artists like Blackberry Smoke and Jason Isbel.
John Jenkins is a firm Liverpool favourite, well known and loved from his appearances around the city with his James Street Band. Back in the day John was a member The Persuaders and Come In Tokio giving him the opportunity to share stages with Elvis Costello, Echo And The Bunnymen and The Beat. For the past 5 years he has followed his own path as a solo artist (often with backing from his superb band), culminating in the release of his well-received ‘Window Shopping In Nashville’ album.
