The final Clerkenville East-West of the 2019 is a stonking triple-bill of heavenly pop delights and acid folk. We have a rare band appearance by WHOA MELODIC, responsible for one of our fave albums of the year, ALAN TYLER, leader of The Rockingbirds, presents his gorgeous electro-country project 'El Tapado' - and closing the night, the entrancing psych folk of TRIMDON GRANGE EXPLOSION. Just £7 advance/ £8 on the door:
Forming in the wake of acclaimed folk rock outfit The Eighteenth Day of May, TRIMDON GRANGE EXPLOSION is a grand continuation and expansion of its previous incarnation's melding of 60s West Coast psych & The Velvet Underground's modal rock – with their own English traditional music and indie rock roots. Evidently, there was unfinished business. “Has Acid Folk ever sounded so mesmerising and as incendiary as this...Open tuned guitars chime out hypnotic raga model notes against viola and rolling drums to create a droning wall of Spector like sound .” Optical Sounds

Described as "post truth melancholia with electro hooks and country harmonies", ALAN TYLER presents his 2018 album, El Tapado with musical companion Patrick Ralla. As chief songwriter in cosmic Camden cowboys The Rockingbirds, Tyler brought country rock to UK indie music fans in thrall to grunge and Britpop, paving the way for the now-huge UK Americana scene. After 25 years and 9 albums, he found a new way of working: writing and recording on a Teenage Engineering OP-1 programmable synthesiser. "Having this amazing technology at my fingertips really pushed me along, got the creative juices flowing, and shown me a different way of writing and recording. I wouldn't say I've gone electronic, exactly. Maybe it's electronicana!”

WHOA MELODIC is the anagramatic musical pseudonym of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Michael Wood. Having spent much of this millennium performing with a variety of other acts, including Steven Adams, The Hayman Kupa Band and The Leaf Library, Michael now takes centre stage. Whoa Melodic's debut album (released earlier this year on WIAIWYA) is a loving hug of an album, a favourite cosy cardigan on a chilly day, With an unnatural obsession with Paul McCartney, it's a hook-laden indie pop treat. Having taken a lot of comfort and help from other people’s music, Whoa Melodic hopes this album will offer the same for others.
