After more than 2 years Generating Steam Heat returns with a show featuring a genuine punk rock legend…

TV Smith was the vocalist and songwriter of the brilliant first wave punk band the Adverts who were responsible for one of the most unusual and controversial singles ever to make the UK top 20 singles chart, ‘Gary Gilmores Eyes,’ and one of the greatest debut albums of the seventies, ‘Crossing The Red Sea With The Adverts’.

TV and his partners in crime in the Adverts including the iconic Gaye Advert were one of THE main bands of punk’s first wave, touring with the likes of Iggy Pop and The Damned, regularly playing London punk mecca The Roxy, appearing on Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test and scoring hit singles and albums.

Since the bands split, TV has been the subject of a BBC 4 documentary and consistently continued to write, records and tour both solo and with bands such as the TV Smiths Explorers and Doctors Of Madness and has a wonderful discography of literate, impassioned music including latest album ‘Lockdown Holiday’.

A main stay of the festival circuit including Europe’s biggest punk festivals Rebellion and Punk And Disorderly, TV brings his solo set covering all stages of his musical life to its natural TQ9 home - Generating Steam Heat!

As per usual at Generating Steam Heat we have DJs, visuals and punk attitude galore. Gentleman Jimmy T will be playing the best in punky reggae with DJMRSBRADYOLDLADY covering all GSH bases from punk, synth, post punk and more with visuals by Jess Wooler (Abrasive Trees) and as it’s our first and final show of the year we may even close out on our traditional ‘Kids Are United’ end of year sing along!
