Circus - Mark Le Brocq - A Masterclass in Classical Singing

Songs of Travel is a song cycle of nine songs originally written for baritone voice composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams, with poems drawn from the Robert Louis Stevenson collection Songs of Travel and Other Verses. Eastbourne College music teacher Chris Dixon is currently rehearsing some of the pupils for a performance of the entire cycle which will take place at the Birley Centre on Tuesday 3 May from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Ahead of that, as part of Circus, we are delighted to offer a ticketed masterclass where the pupils will be put through their paces by tenor Mark Le Brocq. Mark held a choral scholarship at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge where he read English. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Kenneth Bowen and later continued at the National Opera Studio where he was sponsored by The Friends of English National Opera.
Upon completing his studies, Mark became a Company Principal with English National Opera. Roles at ENO included Tamino The Magic Flute; Paris King Priam; Count Almaviva The Barber of Seville; Narraboth Salome; Cassio Otello; Don Ottavio Don Giovanni; Don Basilio Figaro and Doctor Maxwell The Silver Tassie.
Mark’s guest appearances include Mephistopheles Dr Faustus, The Jailer Il Prigioniero Semperoper Dresden; Painter/Client Lulu WNO/Bolzano, Scrooge A Christmas Carol Trento; Luka House of the dead Brno Festival; Loge Das Rheingold for Longborough Opera and Tianjin Symphony Orchestra; Title role Biedermann und die Brandstifter, The Governor Simplicius Simplicissimus Independent Opera; Sir Philip Wingrave Owen Wingrave Opera de Nancy, Siegmund Die Walkürie Opera North, Pierre War and Peace WNO, Chairman Mao Nixon in China Scottish Opera.

Future roles include The Major Figaro gets a divorce Magdeburg, Mazal The Excursions of Mr Broucek Grange Park, Siegfried Götterdämmrung Grimeborn Festival, Vitek The Makropolos Case WNO/Brno Festival.

Mark Le Brocq is an Old Eastbournian.

All profits raised will go directly to the Eastbourne College Bursary Fund, which offers young people the opportunity of a College education which they may not otherwise have.
