SLUGHOUSE (acoustic set)

Note: there are only 60 tickets for this show.

We are extremely excited to bring the good people of Bury St Edmunds a special Colchester v Manningtree face off between two factions of mighty Essex-based songwriting genius heroes: BEN BROWN and PET NEEDS.

Following an extensive UK, US and European tour supporting Frank Turner last year, Colchester's unstoppable punk heroes PET NEEDS have recently completed their own headline UK tour to promote their critically-lauded, Frank Turner (him again)-produced sophomore LP 'Primetime Entertainment', including a string of dates for Independent Venue Week. With tickets flying and many dates sold out, the band added extra dates due to extraordinary demand. Taking the maxim that rock never sleeps to a heroically literal degree, the band have recently announced a US run supporting The Bouncing Souls as well as a UK tour supporting The Lottery Winners in April, plus a range of warm-up shows and festival slots across the UK including 2000 Trees, Dot To Dot, Bearded Theory and more. This special acoustic show will see PN's founding duo of brothers, Johnny and George Marriott, performing tracks from 'Primetime Entertainment', their debut 'Fractured Party Music' and whatever else takes their fancy!

Squaring up to Pet Needs in the Manningtree corner is one of the greatest songwriters ever to hail from any corner of Earth, the genius tunesmith behind Dingus Khan, SuperGlu, Anna's Bones, Pissabed Prophets and more, BEN BROWN. Born in occupied Swindon in 1942, Ben Brown was the youngest of 12 siblings. His father, Montague Brown IV, was a viscount and heir to the throne of Bavaria, while his mother, Lesley 'Barracuda' Oswestry-Brown, was a three-time Olympic pole vaulting champion and inventor of the pickled onion. Born with only three legs, young Ben Brown was faced with a difficult choice: wrestling pythons at his local petting zoo, or serving his community by taking the 137 bus to Westminster each morning and impersonating an ombudsman. Tiring of the mock ombudsman life, in the late '00s Brown developed a passion for finely hand-crafted musical deliciousness and, allying himself with anyone around him vainglorious enough to be allied with, began despatching glorious tune after glorious tune. A man with too many hits to count, Ben will be playing whatever the hell Ben wants to play, and that is how we like it.

Support comes from brand new and utterly brilliant wonky punksters SLUGHOUSE, who'll be taking a break from destroying electronic instruments to destroy some acoustic ones instead.

All ages are welcome. Under-14s must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

There is a fully-licensed bar on the premises. No ID, no alcohol.

WASHING MACHINE IS A SAFE SPACE
We take audience safety very seriously at Washing Machine, and strongly believe that gigs can and should be safe spaces, free from harassment, intimidation, prejudice, bullying and violence. We expect that all artists, venue staff and attendees will respect our values, and we have a zero tolerance policy towards those who do not. Anyone who endangers the enjoyment and safety of others at a Washing Machine night will be ejected and barred from all events at all of our venues. It is unfortunate that in 2023 we still have to say this stuff, but we hope that by doing so we can help to create an atmosphere where everyone feels safe and able to enjoy themselves.
