We are delighted to bring The Hanging Stars to The Foxlowe in Leek. Recent recipients of the prestigious Bob Harris Emerging Artists trophy at the Americana UK Awards, this London-based 5-piece promise a mesmerising live performance.
With four acclaimed albums in their catalogue; 'Over the Silvery Lake' (2016), 'Songs for Somewhere Else' (2017) 'A New Kind of Sky' (2020) and last year's 'Hollow Heart', released through Loose Music, The Hanging Stars have cemented their well-earned repute as masters of a captivating meld of blissful psychedelic folk and harmony-laden cosmic country.
'Hollow Heart' was recorded at Edwyn Collin's Clashnarrow Studios in North-East Scotland with Dexy's producer Sean Reid. Radio Ulster's Ralph McLean made it his album of the year.
The band comprises - singer and guitarist Richard Olsen, bassist Sam Ferman, drummer Paulie Cobra, Patrick Ralla, guitars and keyboards and pedal-steeler Joe Harvey-Whyte. Richard had been a member of the short-lived, now-legendary Eighteenth Day of May before forming The See See with Pete Greenwood. Paulie and Sam would later join and from that band evolved The Hanging Stars.
The band have played throughout the UK and also in Europe including at the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia and most recently at Barcelona Psych Fest.
Special guests on the night will be The Crystal Teardrop, a Midlands-based 5-piece blending garage rock, psychedelia and acid folk. Recently formed out of member of Alfa 9, 23rd Tangent and the Biff Bang Pow contingent in Leicester, the band have released one single to date 'Nine Times Nine' which showcases essential garage rock sensibilities.
We will be opening the evening with local Americana outfit Large Father whose debut single 'Arkanoid' is reminiscent of Fleet Foxes and Shack. The four-piece have a full album in the can due for 2024 release.
