LET US TELL YOU OF BEAUTIFUL TIMES BRIGHTON FOLKS!

FRESH FROM RELEASING THEIR SUBLIME THIRD RECORD EARLIER THIS YEAR AND JUST PRIOR TO HITTING THE ROAD WITH CAITLIN ROSE FOR A SEPTEMBER TOUR OF UK AND EUROPE?BRIGHTON NOISE PROUDLY PRESENTS A HOMETOWN HEADLINE SHOW FOR?

HOLLOW HAND (Hollow Hand)

?The attitude of the album is definitely DIY,? says Max Kinghorn-Mills of Hollow Hand?s 3rd album. ?About just doing everything yourself and not needing to rely on anyone. That's the one thing I love about doing this: no one has any answers for you, you are your own boss and it's your own adventure. It's down to you.?

This liberating personal juncture in Kinghorn-Mills? life also coincided with a musical one. After releasing, and learning from, two albums, 2015?s Ancestral Lands and 2018?s Star Chamber, he was able to gain a better sense of where he wanted to go next musically. ?Ancestral Lands is a raw sounding album which I made in the bedroom of a house I rented with other musician friends,? he says. ?Star Chamber was recorded at the bottom of a garden in a shed at my Dad?s and was the combined efforts of three very close friends - a huge step up in terms of arrangements and instrumentation. This new album is a middle ground between the two - reclaiming the naivety and playful aspects of an earlier time but only really being possible after having spent time collaborating and evolving.?

THE NEW EVES (The New Eves)

The New Eves are a Brighton quartet who have been labeled as one of the country?s most spellbinding new bands. Expect a ritualistic mash-up of folksong, yelping punk and mesmeric drone.

With an unusual lineup of cello, violin, flute, guitar, bass and drums, The News Eves DIY nature and fierce spirit seem to be conjuring some kind of folkloric punk revival. With a poetic honesty about who they are and what they love at the core, their rhythms are like galloping horses and were they on a mountaintop, their voices would ring for miles. Going to a New Eves show is like being complicit in some kind of ritualistic opening. They tear up rock and roll at its roots, expressing a journey through seance, strings and electric guitar. They?re a work of art to witness and a sensational climax to be felt.

SEAN THOMPSON?S WEIRD EARS (Sean Thompson?s Weird Ears)

Sean Thompson?s Weird Ears self-titled full-length debut (out late April 2022 on Curation Records) centers the seasoned singer-songwriter/guitarist in the immediacy of the present moment. Born and raised in Nashville, Thompson cut his teeth playing in a slew of projects around the city?s rock, folk, and experimental scenes both as creative collaborator and session player, spanning from the experimental math-rock of Gnarwhal to the psychedelic country-rock of Teddy & the Rough Riders, Promised Land Sound, or Skyway Man, to more recently joining singer-songwriter Erin Rae as a one-man-right-hand band. When asked about the connective throughline in his projects, Thompson doesn?t hesitate: ?From Gnarwhal to now, I?ve always wanted to make something that feels alive.? Taking equal inspiration from the improvisational grooves of the Grateful Dead as well as the craft of songwriters like JJ Cale & Joni Mitchell, Thompson?s songwriting debut marks the arrival of a unique voice grounded by wide-reaching, generous ears.

2019?s acclaimed ?Time Has Grown a Raspberry? EP introduced us to Thompson?s singular songwriting, with its barreling Dead-esque boogies, lived-in country rock a la Barefoot Jerry, and experimental stretch-outs in the vein of Sonny & Linda Sharrock. On the heels of its release and early in the 2020 pandemic, Thompson began meeting with longtime friends and bandmates in Teddy & the Rough Riders as well as engineer Jake Davis to safely gather with friends and jam, bringing in new material and trying it out on tape. These sessions, sometimes lasting seven or eight hours in the thrill of collaboration, would become Thompson?s debut LP. Thrumming with the electricity of players who know one another deeply, these eleven songs feature Thompson?s guitar playing at its most ripping (?New Trailway Boogie?), his improvisational ear at its most collaborative (?Instrumental Health?) and his newfound songwriting voice at its most tender and introspective (?Before the Flowers Bloom,? ?Curse the Conscience?). Dynamic shifts frequently occur, snapping the listener sharply into the impulse of the players. Recorded by Davis at laughing hearts studios with Jack Quiggins, Ryan Jennings, Nicholas Swafford, Spencer Cullum Jr, Eli Bishop, Emily Nenni, and Erin Rae; mixed by Jeremy Ferguson (Battle Tapes) and mastered by Nick Townsend, Sean Thompson?s Weird Ears features the confidence of a songwriter deeply rooted within a dynamic community.
