The Qwarks
"The Qwarks are what you could call a three-piece, garage rock/ psychedelic/ protopunk outfit from Brighton, UK. Formed under conditions of lockdown in 2020 a barrage of singles were released leading up to their debut album, The Qwarks are Cancelled' in summer 2021.
Conceived at the apogee of the 'Before-Time' (last February) The Qwarks dived from the harbour wall of certainty into the incandescent waters of unreason with new-minted fins & gills, swimming wildly for the horizon of promise.
Over the years they have played gigs and festivals from Craigentinny to New York, just not with each other, but all that is set to change. Several seminal performances on Herbie Flowers' Thursday Night Show (an internet radio show, on Thursdays, at night) have garnered fans and admirers from around the global psych-rock-proto-punk-ready-salted community/pigeonhole, and helped hone their style into a dangerous weapon, gleaming and ready for the stage.
Socially distanced, and distanced from society, they have managed to record an album over the last year using the internet and some cheap plugins. Covering universal human themes (bondage, monkeys, chairs, The Pope etc etc), and played with an aplomb bordering on actual desperation, the album will be knackered together by July.
The Qwarks, hailing from the former alternative hotspot Brighton & Hove in the UK (now ruined by second home buyers from London) have been described as a "rock feast", with songs that are "funny and well played", and lyrics that read like "a groupies memoir gone wrong". Don't say we didn't warn you.
"we don't have time to be bored"
Don't follow leaders, watch the bottom feeders.
...a 1970s era American Proto-punk groove with a distinctly British sense of humor. If MC5 and Monty Python were to collaborate on a song, it may sound a bit like this." - Bob Smith, The Static Dive Music Blog

MAP 71
MAP 71 are Lisa Jayne (lyrics, vocals, art), and Andy Pyne (drums, electronics).
Formed in Brighton in 2013 they are too experimental to be pop, too psychedelic to be post-punk, too rhythmic to keep still, too thought provoking to ignore.
Their sixth album - Blood Fruit - (released in spring 2023) can be heard at map71.bandcamp.com
MAP 71 have one foot in post-punk and the other in non-retro psychedelia, cut-up abstractions skitter and explode over mesmeric rhythms. Shindig
Pyne is clattery as hell - cymbals twitch like insects - the synth voms dark circles and Jayne rant and whispers aspersions. Pretty neat, actually. The Wire

Failed Psychics
A tight passionate mathy/post-hardcore DIY band from Brighton influenced by Fugazi, Minutemen, and Mclusky. We've gigged everywhere in Brighton for the past 6 years, including Off the Record festival and putting on our own festival last year and gigs to showcase bands we love, such as Sypha, Spleen and Ducks. Our latest release, an almighty slab of mathy acoustic-tinged post-hardcore, "Blood, Bones and Breaks", was recorded by the mighty James Gasson (student of Steve Albini) at Third Circle Studios in Portslade and was released on 10th of March.
Failed Psychics are a 3 piece Brighton combo featuring: -
Alex- Guitar and vocals
James- Bass and backing vocals
Sam- Drums and voiceless singing along
Proper blokes. Proper punk. Proper awkward onstage banter.
