Efterklang return to Belfast to showcase their third album ‘Magic Chairs’ (released February 2010). Formed in Copenhagen in 2000, Efterklang (the Danish word for reverberation) consists of Mads Brauer (electronics, various), Casper Clausen (vocals, various), Thomas Husmer (drums, trumpet, percussion) and Rasmus Stolberg (bass) and an ever-evolving number of collaborators.

They released their first EP ‘Springer’ in 2003 and by 2004 they completed their dazzling debut studio album ‘Tripper’, which incorporated strings, a brass section, a choir and guest vocalists. This was followed up in 2007 with ‘Parades’, an even more ambitious record, featuring thirty guest musicians.

‘Magic Chairs’, (the band’s first album on the 4AD label), began life early in 2009. During brief breaks in touring, the four core members of Efterklang began to develop song sketches into more elaborate arrangements in Tel Aviv and Portland, with help from members of their seven-piece live band. Taking these songs with them on the road and testing them out on their US tour allowed the band the luxury to fine-tune and hone each new track before returning to Denmark in the spring to begin the task of recording. Engineer-producer Gareth Jones (Nick Cave, Depeche Mode) was drafted in to mix ‘Magic Chairs’ in London. The result is an intimate and immediate record that exudes warmth and is an even bolder step forward for these great Danes.
