Sam Carter won the Horizon Award for the best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2010. He was a Bright Phoebus Folk Rising star at one of our Boardwalk gigs and really impressed with his great playing and lovely songs. A startlingly perceptive and self-assured young singer and guitarist from the English midlands, Sam has spent the last few years busily honing his craft both as a writer and performer, studying guitar with Martin Simpson and touring with Bellowhead whilst holding down his post as Emerging Artist in Residence at London's Southbank Centre.
Armed with a 'killer voice' (Nitin Sawhney) and the ability to play his guitar 'like a harp' (Time Out), as well as an unerring ability to put his personal experiences into a wider perspective, the east London-based songsmith is a Bright Phoebus favourite and we're delighted to welcome him to The Greystones.
With MC and mentor, Martin Simpson, this promises to be a night of top guitar playing with a great bit of collaboration thrown in!
