Event information

Lou Gare is a giant of the tenor saxophone. From the mid-sixties, as a founding member of AMM he was crucially involved in pioneering improvised music. In so doing he has developed a unique approach to saxophone freedoms, alternative and simultaneous to that of his contemporary, Evan Parker. Yet, in the last three decades Lou Gare has performed and recorded increasingly seldom. This two day Oto residency offers a rare and vital opportunity to hear one of the music’s greats over two nights and will be his first appearance in London for five years.

As well as solos on both days, Lou will renew an historic musical relationship with his former AMM-colleague, drummer Eddie Prévost. He will be joined on each night by one of the drummer's current projects, each working at, out and beyond the edge of jazz.

On the first night Lou meets SUM, the trio of Prévost, guitarist Ross Lambert and alto saxophonist Seymour Wright. On the second he will be joined by the quartet of Prévost, pianist Philip Somervell, bassist Guillaume Viltard plus Jamie Coleman on trumpet.
