TRANS-SIBERIAN MARCH BAND

Romanian Ghetto Blasters Mahala Rai Banda are known the world over for their cracking tune Mahalageasca, remixed by Shantel and featured all over the Borat film. A cross between Johnny Depp favourites Taraf de Haidouks, and Romanian brass legends Fanfare Ciocarlia, Mahala Rai Banda bring an urban twist to hot Romanian Gypsy tunes. The power of the brass band versus young city-dwelling traditional Gypsy musicians creates a dynamic and explosive fusion.. Mahala means ‘the Gypsy part of town’, Rai is ‘honourable’ and Banda…. well there’s 11 of them on stage!
“dazzling” The Guardian
“exhilarating” The Independent
Well used to big stages and festivals, in 2007 Mahala Rai Banda played the Barbican Centre with Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello as part of 1000 Year Journey festival, and in 2009 the Royal Festival Hall in the Gypsy Queens and Kings show. Catch them in an unmissable up-close Shoreditch party!
Support comes from local favourites, the brass-heavy, slightly bonkers Trans-Siberian March Band, hot on the heels of their live project with DJ Yoda.
