Featured in the 2009 documentary film, “Taqwacore: The Birth of Punk Islam” and having provided the soundtrack to 2009 Sundance Film Festival Next Section Selection “The Taqwacores”, The Kominas are largely regarded as co- founders of a “Muslim Punk Scene” in America.
Their 2007 debut album “Wild Nights in Guantanamo Bay” was selected by The Boston Globe as on of their Top 10 Albums of The Year and their first tour was covered by Rolling Stone, Newsweek and BBC Newsnight.
Although The Kominas formed in Boston, they relocated to Pakistan for 2 years shortly afterwards before returning to the U.S., settling in Brooklyn. Last year the band made their first trip to Europe and the UK, headlining The Queen Elizabeth Hall for Meltdown Festival and performing a storming set at Latitude Festival in Suffolk.
The Kominas are currently writing their third album & running their own record label/artist collective, Poco Party.
