Pat Smith & Ned Clamp: Shammick Acoustic concert

The last time they visited, they brought along the Mari Lwyd, the Welsh New Year horse, but this time they’ll confine themselves to the music. There are many singers and concertina players, but in addition, Pat is a virtuoso spoons player – and you don’t get many of those! As half of the popular Welsh duo Calennig for many years, and still a member of the Calennig Big Band, playing for twmpathau (Welsh dances), Pat is an accomplished performer whose enthusiasm for Welsh traditional culture has taken her all round the world – and they don’t come any more Welsh than Pat! Although born an Englishman, guitarist Ned has been adopted by Wales, and has been involved in the folk scene there for over twenty-five years. His music has ranged from folk to ragtime, and from country to big band music – truly eclectic tastes! Together, Pat and Ned perform fascinating songs and tunes, old and new, “blending gentle harmonies with top-drawer musicianship”, drawing in their audiences wherever they go. As a great lead-up into the evening concert, Pat will, in the afternoon, be leading a spoons workshop – definitely worth having a go!
