Award-winning klezmer band returns to Green Note...
“She’koyokh is Britain’s best klezmer and Balkan music band” (Songlines) and winners of the Netherlands’ International Jewish music competition. The band's evolution spans the humble origins of busking at East London’s Columbia Road flower market to performing in the famous concert halls of Europe including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Gasteig in Munich and London’s Purcell Room. Founded at the Jewish Music Institute’s first Klezfest in 2001, She'Koyokh's line-up consists of eight UK-based musicians who have travelled and studied with master musicians in Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Turkey. They perform a thrilling mix of klezmer, Sephardic, Russian, Kurdish, Turkish, Greek, Romanian, Serbian, Hungarian and Bulgarian music, most of which would traditionally be played at weddings and festivals.
