Carl Palmer is a drummer’s drummer. A consummate professional, a brilliant technician and a dynamic showman, he has thrilled listeners and audiences alike for nearly four decades with some of music’s most memorable bands. His dazzling speed and mastery of the drums, combined with his infectious stage personality, have secured for him a respected place in history as one of Rock and Roll’s greatest drummers.
The Carl Palmer Band is filled out by two young, virtuoso performers: bassist Simon Fitzpatrick and guitarist Paul Bielatowicz. Though it may be questionable to some to have a guitarist replace the signature keyboards and organ of the original ELP lineup, it is a very wise move. Bielatowicz’s incredible fretwork helps to create a harder, more modern edge as the band, with the veteran Palmer’s relentless drumming at the fore, offers furious takes on some of ELP’s most progressive instrumental numbers.
The band will be playing ‘Pictures At An Exhibition’ in its entirety, as well as other ELP classics including ‘The Barbarian’, ‘Hoedown.’, ‘Tarkus’ and ‘Fanfare For The Common Man’. The band’s raw power and virtuosity provide an energy and an edginess that belongs to today. The music might go way back, but the musicianship is most certainly from here and now.
