THE DEEP DARK WOODS (Saskatoon, Canada)
From the prairie lands of Saskatchewan, come The Deep Dark Woods perhaps the most exciting new sound in the indiefolk/Americana genre. And, we’re super pleased to present them to you on this, their first ever European tour.
The Deep Dark Woods frame their music with subtle orchestration; songs are trimmed with minimal embellishments of banjo, piano, with subtle mellotron flutters.
The hirsute, yet dapper, quintet based in Saskatoon offer murder ballads alongside scrappy rockers, lovesick hymnals and slow-dance waltzes that preserve the shadowy corners of folk music traditions. There's a sadness that runs throughout the 13-song affair that is their current rather brilliant “The Place I Left Behind” album but the uplifting harmonies and warm organ work act as the perfect counterpoint.
