A celebration of the bronze gong orchestras and dance of Centra Java
The mesmerising sounds of the Javanese gamelan and the graceful moves of Javanese dance return to St Ethelberga's on Friday 23 March. Siswå Sukrå, a community gamelan group based at the Southbank Centre at the Royal Festival Hall, will be playing an enchanting and varied set from 7.30pm. They will be accompanying Javanese dancers from the Lila Bhawa dance group.
The Javanese gamelan is a bronze percussion-based ensemble that has fascinated and inspired Western composers for over a century. Tonight we will hear both traditional and modern gamelan pieces.
