Event information

Time for the next round of the Cambridge Hammer & Tongue 2011-2012 season...

This is your chance to become part of the spoken word slam brilliance that has graced this here fair city for over two years, in the warm and wonderful surroundings of fabulous venue The Emperor. Sign up as one of the eight to compete for a place in the Regional Final, or just dive in and soak up the atmosphere and talent on display. And some great beer.

Doors open at 7:30pm; advance tickets are a paltry £5 full price, an even more paltry £3.50 for concessions, and a ludicrous £2 for slammers. Tickets on the door are £6.50 full price, £5 for concessions, and £3 for slammers, which is quite the bargain! Find us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/events/348878211814454), and buy your tickets in advance from We Got Tickets, or get in touch (cambridge@hammerandtongue.com or 07904 488009) if you’d prefer to get them in person.

Accurately described as a ‘wordsmith wizard’, Chris Redmond, aka “Ventriloquist”, weaves tantalizing tales from an extraordinarily broad palette. His appearances include BBC Radio1, XFM and Sky TV, the Southbank Centre in London, Jazz Café, Glastonbury and Latitude. No stranger to music, Ventriloquist has performed beside Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Tom Baxter and Portico Quartet.

And he is the founder and host of Tongue-Fu: a show in which the UK’s best performance poets flex their lyrical ninja skills to an improvised soundtrack from the Tongue Fu band. Tongue Fu’s current home is Rich Mix, East London, but gigs also include The Barbican, The Roundhouse and an increasing number of UK music and literature festivals. The Guardian described it as “Poetry, but not as you know it… amazing to listen to”. “Tongue Fu is at the high end of the scene” – Time Out. Tongue Fu is produced by Renaissance One.
