THE SCHOOL - http://theschoolband.co.uk/
To coincide with LP 'Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything" we're pleased to have indie-popsters, THE SCHOOL come and play for us. From the ELEFANT RECORDS stable, home to CAMERA OBSCURA, THE PRIMATIVES, BMX BANDITS and AMELIA FLETCHER'S HEAVENLY, The School create bright shimmering 60's inspired pop. Think BEACH BOYS harmonies, PHIL SPECTOR productions mixed with inspiration from 60's girl groups like THE RONNETTES and THE SHANGRI-LAS.
Perfect for fans of the above and the likes of BELLE & SEBASTIAN, SATURDAY LOOKS GOOD TO ME, ALLO DARLIN' etc.
"Upbeat, jangly indie pop featuring bright organs, handclap rhythms, and an effortlessly catchy pop melody that's hard to deny. It's infectious and immediate, and launches The School firmly into the realm currently occupied by recent guitar pop up-and-comers like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart". "They blend the lush chamber pop of Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura with a nearly fetishistic devotion to 1960s pop sensibilities... There's nobody out there right now doing quite what this band does as well as they do" *** 8.5/10 *** The405
The new album is a follow up to debut 'Loveless Unbeliever' which made over 70 'Best of 2010' lists, was 6Music's Album of the Day, Rough Trade's Album of the Week and Radio Nowhere's Album of the Year. Adam Walton (Radio Wales) declared it his favourite Welsh pop album of all time, and even Molly Ringwald is a self-confessed fan!
TIGERCATS - http://tigercatsband.com/
Yay! We're genuinely really, really excited to have Tigercats on the bill, simply because they're completely brilliant! Just check out the press they've been getting lately (below) and give them a listen.
"They're very London, but their influences come from America: a splendid busyness inherited from Television, a rhythmic restlessness taken from Violent Femmes and, from Blondie, an understanding that just because you're a rock band, it doesn't mean you're not allowed to make people dance." - THE SUNDAY TIMES
"A fine slice of indie-pop" - LAUREN LAVERN, BBC 6 Music
"Tigercats are that rarest of bands, an indie-pop act you can actually dance to..." - NEONFILLER.COM: "top ten bands to watch out for in 2012″
"It reminds me of Los Campesinos that, and that's a very very very good thing" - HUW STEPHENS, BBC Radio 1
"as an indie-pop album goes this is as good as it gets. It's teaming with radio friendly, infectious hooks, [and] the freshest sounds I've heard for some time from a UK act. Plus, as we said when we touted them as one to watch this year, they are an indie pop band you can dance to. That's actually rarer than you'd think." - NEONFILLER.COM's 10/10 review of Isle of Dogs
"'Isle of Dogs' is an album to be adored. Superbly crafted, original and soul-tingly, Tigercats can bring who they want to the party. Just make sure you have a ticket." - CLICKMUSIC.COM's 5/5 review of Isle of Dogs
DALLAS DON'T
Dalas Don't - http://dallasdont.tumblr.com/
Oxford's Scottish answer to Mclusky. If you couldn't get in to see them at the rammed Duke's Cut at The Oxford Punt recently then don't miss the chance to see them here.
