7:30pm Saturday 16th June 2012
St. Paul's Church, Shipley
Daniel Justin - organ
Paul Dewhurst - conductor
In addition to the Queen's Jubilee, 2012 sees the anniversaries of a number of British composers. It therefore seems appropriate to celebrate some of their works in our summer concert. So we feature a couple of part songs by Edward German (whose 150th anniversary it is), My Bonnie Lass She Smileth, and Love is Meant to Make Us Glad from his opera Merrie England.
It is 100 years since the death of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, famous for his setting of Hiawatha's Wedding Feast. But in this concert we sing the less well known (and slightly daft) Viking Song! The final anniversary is the choir's favourite, Delius (born in Bradford 150 years ago) and his setting of Tennyson's The Splendour Falls on Castle Walls.
Coronation music is provided by Handel in two of his Coronation Anthems, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened and My Heart is Inditing.
