Our 2012/13 season begins in October with two important commemorations: we celebrate the life of John Ireland (who died 60 years ago in 1962) with one of his greatest works, A London Overture, and we also mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Coleridge-Taylor. The two Imaginary Ballet excerpts were in fact played by the FSO in their first concert, in December 1922, and are a fitting way to end our current birthday celebrations. Our Orchestra members, who chose this season's programme, also selected Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 and the Elgar Cello Concerto. This gives us the opportunity to introduce our audience to Bartholomew LaFollette, a young and very famous musician from Philadelphia who studied from an early age at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England.
