SARAH GILLESPIE

SANDWICH: St Mary's Arts Centre

FRI 14TH JUN, 2013 Doors & Bar 7pm

Critically acclaimed songstress Sarah Gillespie's music is a fusion of jazz, blues and folk knitted together by her trademark poetic, streetwise lyricism. The Guardian's jazz critique John Fordham describes Gillespie as "(joining) Bob Dylan's lyrical bite and languid delivery to the forthrightness of Joni Mitchell, with a little rap-like percussiveness thrown in, she is an original." Touring with her new third album 'Glory Days' Sarah's trio features Murcury nominated composer Kit Downes on piano and the formidable Ben Bastin on double bass.

'Gillepsie is simply brilliant, the bee's knees'
- Robert Wyatt

Gillespie's second album is so strikingly fine that you wonder how you can have missed her first one... Lovely, poetic. Mail on Sunday ★★★★
A beat poet adventurer who strays beyond the bounds of singer-songwriter.
MOJO ★★★★
