SPITZ & ARCTIC CIRCLE PRESENTS: ROTHKO + KLIMA + ANNE GARNER + BEN ESHMADE

Rothko, formerly a bass trio, was named after founder member Mark Beazleys favourite painter. Beazley explains the seemingly incongruous inspiration thus: "He worked in blocks of colour, we try to work in blocks of sound". Their music is calming and serene; it isn't something you need to dedicate your whole attention to. It's not an assault on the senses, rather the charming of the subconscious. There is a stream of consciousness feeling to the music, its changes in instrumentation and atmosphere sometimes barely discernable until it's right on top of you, then it's gone.
Klima mainstay Angèle David-Guillou is a one-off; a London-based French singer-songwriter whose muse effectively synthesises Gallic and Anglo-American pop, rock and electronica to create highly personal music of unique allure, brimming with wry lyrical apercus and insightful, autobiographical observations, which go beyond the parameters of the stereotypical, kohl-eyed French chanteuse.
