Leatherat
Purveyors of Hi-Octane Rock. Delivering the raw adrenalin of rock music, fused with the intricacies of traditional folk tunes. Leatherat are a festival band dedicated to playing original folk-rock music fast and loud. The ‘At’s’ are based around Banbury, Oxfordshire and consist of Pete Bailey (vox, mandolin, guitar), Jono Watts (fiddle), Jeremy Paul Carroll (bass), James Foley (guitars) and Lee Smith (drums).
Leatherat have released four studio albums; most recently “Uprising” which features the single “All in this Together”. Leatherat played their first gig in 2004 and have since played over 350 concerts sharing stages with acclaimed acts including The Levellers, Hawkwind (Space Ritual), Fairport Convention, Status Quo and Jethro Tull.
The True Deceivers
Developing their own blend of rootsy folk rock/Americana since their formation in 2003 with former Blazing Homesteads Nick Bliss (guitar, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Dee Coley (bass) and the late and sadly missed Mark Mitchell (fiddle) were joined by former Plenty frontman Graham Firth (vocals, guitar) and Jamie Legg (drums) and have since become favourites on Surrey music scene and regulars at festivals including Guilfest, Weyfest, Haslemere Fringe Festival and Bearded Theory.
For 2012 the True Deceivers have reverted to their full electric line-up, which they had temporarily swapped for a more stripped-down acoustic sound following Mark’s untimely death in 2009. 2012 also sees the long-awaited release of the band’s second album, Hell or High Water, which builds on the critically-acclaimed song writing and vocal harmonies of their 2007 debut Lies We Have Told.
Thinker
3-piece folk-indie band from the South of the UK. They call themselves folk-indie, but only because they are acoustic led and have a fiddle; in reality it is difficult to categorise music which draws on Irish, English, Punk and Indie influences.
They play across the country – at roots festivals such as Bearded Theory, Watchett, and Maker, and as well as playing to packed audiences with their own shows, have supported acts like Mark Chadwick from the Levellers, 3 Daft Monkeys and New Adventures in venues like the Wedgewood Rooms, The Joiners and 93 Feet East.
Call To Arms is the debut album from Thinker, and is a collection of original songs which demonstrate the varied musical influences of the band. Bringing “folk”
music back to the people, the ground covered is diverse, with the hard political edge to songs such as the title track “Call to Arms” tempered by heartfelt sentiments in songs such as the bittersweet “For You My Love”.
