Sunk Season present their first night at Café OTO, showcasing the finest in knew-age experimentalism, with three solo synth sorcerers: Innercity, The Asterism and Tidal. Also featuring Deejay BACKSTABBER and with stage decoration by Jennifer Crouch. The three acts will utilise various combinations of hardware synths, FX, samplers and loopers to stimulate sonic transcendence - a head trip for the mind and soul.
Innercity (Hans Dens) will be making his London debut as part of his first tour of the UK. Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium, Hans has released a slew of well-received tapes and LPs in the past few years, finding a home on labels such as Not Not Fun, Further Records, NNA Tapes and Aguirre Records.
With firm roots in the underground tape scene - having toured extensively with The Skaters/Clark/Ferraro and fellow Antwerpian, Dolphins Into the Future - Hans has carved his own distinctive niche with an intoxicating blend of rippling synths, obscured incantations and off-kilter beat edits.
At once playful, blissed out and malevolent, Innercity undermines the New Age dream with a dystopic surrealism that will twist your head off. Hans will be accompanied by the renowned Belgian underground figure, Bart De Paepe (of Sloow Tapes/Sylvester Anfang) on guitar, and synth extraordinaire, Modulator ESP (Sloow Tapes/Earth Mantra) on synth accompaniment.
Mark Pilkington (The Asterism) runs Strange Attractor Press and has written for The Wire, Fortean Times, Frieze, Arthur and others. Mark regularly gives talks around the world - including a recent New Age themed event at Café OTO - and there is a film adaptation of his book 'Mirage Men' currently in the works, soundtracked by Earth and Cyclobe.
But his talent for the weird and wonderful also extends to music, in particular the synthesiser and improvised electronics. Mark plays in a variety of experimental groups, including Raagnagrok, Urthona and Disinformation, but will here be making his solo synth debut as The Asterism - expect a blend of raw synth burbles and electrical bursts looped to rewire you mind. Believe in the power.
Sunk Season's own Jimmy Billingham will perform under his Tidal moniker for the second time at Café OTO. Jimmy has released on various labels across the world over the past 3 years, mainly on tape but also making his vinyl debut on Aguirre Records last year, with a debut solo LP coming later this year on Further Records.
Jimmy toured Europe in 2012, as well as starting the label Sunk Series with his partner, artist Jennifer Crouch (who together also put on Sunk Season). One of a number of projects (others include Venn Rain and Journey of Mind), it is with Tidal that Jimmy conjures up aural vistas of blissful sonic abandon - melodic, chaotic, deep and textured.
