Event information

Minimal/maximal terror jazz trio The AMES room make a welcome return to Cafe OTO!

Clayton Thomas was also seen here most recently as part of a duo tour with Chris Corsano (including a blazing quartet with Nathaniel Facey and Alex Ward) whilst Will Guthrie left a packed house stunned in January with his solo performance opening up for Mika Vainio.

There are few groups operating with this level of combined intensity and invention and this promises to be an exhilirating white knuckle ride.

THE AMES ROOM

Jean-Luc Guionnet / alto saxophone
Will Guthrie / drums
Clayton Thomas / double bass

The three members of THE AMES ROOM are involved in a multitude of musical activities: free improvisation, electro-acoustic composition, jazz, installations, noise, rock, however all three share a passion for free jazz at it’s most energetic and brutal heights. The music rests somewhere between Roscoe Mitchell’s Noonah, Last Exit’s tribal adventures, and Henry Threadgill’s spider web like tapestries of sound. Between them the three members have worked/work with the likes of Peter Brötzmann, Tobias Delius, Jim Denley, Robin Fox, Chris Abrahams, Axel Dorner, Johannes Bauer, Paul Lovens, Peter Jacquemyn, Burkhard Beins, Keith Rowe, Jerome Noetinger, Thomas Ankersmit, Andy Moor, Tony Buck, Eric La Casa, Eric Cordier , Edward Perraud, Philipp Samartzis , Marc Baron …

The AMES Room's New tape ‘FULL ILLINOIS JACQUET’ is out now on Factotum Tapes

"This French/Australian trio lays into you like the first time you got beat up as a kid. It’s sheer brute force and once you finally give in there is this little blissful nature that sets in. The feeling that this might be all there is left for you. But The Ames Room help you realize there’s more inside the noise than you realize." Jazz Wrap
