Folk Legends make a welcome return
Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Ric Sanders, Chris Leslie and Gerry Conway
Fairport Convention, the legendary band who originated folkrock music, are on the road in June and Southampton music-lovers are in for a treat.
Fairport Convention will perform a selection of old favourites and new material. As well as classics from their enormous back catalogue, the band will be airing songs and instrumentals intended for their forthcoming new album.
This line-up features Simon Nicol (vocals, guitar), Dave Pegg (bass guitar), Ric Sanders (violin), Chris Leslie (mandolin, fiddle, vocals) and Gerry Conway (percussion).
"We're really looking forward to visiting Southampton again." says founder-member Simon Nicol. "We love the local audience and The Brook is a great venue for live music. "
It has been a busy year for Fairport. The band spent most of January in Germany followed by five weeks touring the UK. March saw them playing in Ireland and Italy. The year has been special for bass player Dave Pegg too – it is his fortieth consecutive year in Fairport Convention.
After their May tour, the band members will be preparing for their annual open-air music festival at Cropredy in Oxfordshire which takes place in August.
