The Kai Hoffman Quartet, with Gunther Kurmayr, piano (Ray Gelato Giants, Salena Jones), Geoff Gascoyne, bass (Jamie Cullum, Michel Legrand) and Sebastiaan de Krom, drums (Herbie Hancock, Kurt Elling), play everything from 60s boogaloo to Mingus-style bass lines, via bossa nova and balshy New Orleans. From Fran Landesmann’s Some Boys to the strength of the Propellerhead’s History Repeating, Pure Imagination’s beauty to Kai’s toe-tapping title track, this quartet offers a masterful showcase of vocal and instrumental talent.
