BRING YOUR OWN REFRESHMENTS BUT NO GLASS BOTTLES!
Audrey (www.audrey.se)
Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Audrey make stunningly beautiful music. Four part vocal harmonies combine with lush organic instrumentation to conjur up the feeling that you're watching a winter morning's sunrise, but with a sense of nagging unease... (ahem). Comparisons to Low, Sigur Ros and Red House Painters are spot on in terms of quality, but miss that certain quality that makes Audrey so captivating. Forest of Sound can't believe its luck in getting them to come to Leeds. They're amazing.
“…Vocal harmonies are swapped over layers of brazen guitar clashes, while soft words are uttered revealing poignant memories of years gone by. In the distance, the curators behind the noise are revealed to us - an all-female collective whose music conjures up dreams of stumbling through dense fog, or a stroll down a country lane in the early hours of a winter morning.". - Drowned in Sound
Paul Marshall (www.myspace.com/paulmarshall)
Probably Leeds' best songsmith. Paul has a way with a simple guitar phrase and melody that cuts through the barriers that exposure to endless whining singer-songwriters has left. Expect lush finger picked melodies ghosting underneath fragile vocal lines that place him somewhere between Nick Drake, Iron and Wine and Red House Painters.
"The perfectionist-like execution and heart-wrenching qualities are very rarely matched elsewhere. Superb." - www.leedsmusicscene.net
Laura Groves (www.myspace.com/lauragroves)
In her own words, Laura "...writes songs for various instruments, some of which she can play and some of which she can't (but tries to anyway), and watches the interesting folk go by.". She's much more than that... as her simple, clear and gorgeous songs will prove.
"...her songs display an endearing innocence and tenderness, similar to an English Joni Mitchell or a more lucid Kate Bush."
