Mahler in Miniature is a new musical project based in the Highlands, to present performances of several major works by Gustav Mahler, which have been arranged for a chamber ensemble consisting of sixteen musicians. These arrangements, by the German composer Klaus Simon, have proved very popular with audiences and performers alike for their faithfulness to the originals and the fact that they provide a more intimate way of experiencing the music of this master.
The first concert tour in June 2013 features the 4th Symphony, one of the best-loved of all Mahler's works. It includes the delightfully Viennese first movement, the eerie and unsettling 'Danse Macabre' that follows and the alternatively peaceful and impassioned slow movement. It ends with the deeply touching beauty and simplicity of the song for soprano, Das Himmlische Leben (The Heavenly Life).
Preceding the symphony will be Martinu's rarely performed but sparkling Nonet and a chamber arrangement of Debussy's iconic and sensual Prélude à l'après midi d'un faune.
Tickets £9, £7 for seniors, £5 for under 26s - unreserved seating
