Happenstance is the name of a band that has already made several appearances under a different moniker. The dynamic of the ensemble arises from an uneasy blending of styles, with the wonderful Chris Biscoe’s jazz fluidity pitched against the sonic intensity of Guillaume Viltard’s bass, mediated through a sort of semi-melodic abstraction from Noel Taylor and underpinned by the punkish energy of Tom Greenhalgh on drums. There’s no way this should work, except perhaps by the grace of happenstance…

The trio of Tom Jackson, Roland Ramanan and Daniel Thompson explore extremely delicate acoustic textures that are suddenly punctured by energetic bursts of fluid ensemble interaction that take you on a careening wild ride, hanging on to the edge of a kind of insane, dislocated counterpoint that somehow makes absolute sense.
