One of the UK's top young bluegrass and folk acts, identical twin sisters Charlotte and Laura Carrivick have grown up playing and writing music together. Their unique style shows their strong bluegrass influences without obscuring their English roots. They perform their original songs and instrumentals along with a few carefully chosen covers on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and clawhammer banjo.
These girls can only be classified as exceptional, and that applies in several areas. They are astonishing instrumentalists on any and every instrument. Laura is an award winning, speedy fiddler and an absolutely sublime dobro player – which is the best way to play a dobro. At first, you might think Charlotte is the “rhythm guitarist” of the duo – until she just takes off with some startling runs with the fleet grace of David Grier or John Lowell. Same on banjo. Same on mandolin. Both sisters play with a precision that makes others seem like bluegrass bulls in china shops.
And if all this arcane bluegrass virtuosity is lost on you, well, there is the singing. When the first harmony chimes in, you immediately realise that the musical closeness siblings can attain is multiplied geometrically by twin siblings. They sing as one, never a mis-timed entrance or a note even the slightest bit off throughout. It is mesmerising.
