Event information

22nd November is St Cecilia's Day, the Patron Saint of music.

100 years ago that day, Benjamin Britten was born, famously dubbed the "greatest English composer since Purcell".

50 years ago that day, three of the most prominent men in history died: theologian and author C. S. Lewis, philosopher Auldous Huxley, and President John F Kennedy.

In memory of these prominent figures, the Choir of St Michael at the North Gate perform some of the world's best vocal music, created or inspired by these men, including Britten's 'Hymn to St Cecilia', J. S. Bach's 'Komm, Jesu, komm' and Herbert Howells' 'Take him, earth, for cherishing', written for the memorial service of President John F Kennedy in Washington National Cathedral.
