DISJUNCTIONS present an evening of live electronic music with EKOPLEKZ (Planet Mu) and DWELLINGS (Tesla Tapes) plus support on Friday 13th June at The Literary & Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne.
EKOPLEKZ (Planet Mu, Mordant Music, Punch Drunk)
Ekoplekz is the lo-fi electronic project of Nick Edwards. As well as releasing solo work on a string of major labels, he has collaborated with Baron Mordant (as eMMplekz), Bassclef (as Ekoclef), as well as other side projects such as Ensemble Skalectrik and PLKZFX.
In March 2014 Ekoplekz made his debut on Planet Mu with the album Unfidelity, working closely with label head Mike Paradinas to create a work which aligns itself with Mu's melodic sensibilities and lets the early 90's electronica influences bleed in, while retaining the intensely transporting feel that all his work possesses.
Ekoplekz shuns modern digital production techniques in favour of analogue equipment, lo-fi cassette recorders and a spontaneous, improvised approach to composition. The Bristol based artist takes inspiration from BBC Radiophonic soundtracks, early dub reggae, krautrock and post-punk/industrial pioneers like Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and Robert Rental.
"Alien static, aquatic subs and rouge transmitter bleeps; legacy technology guided by hidden hands; a sense that he'd be doing it anyway, regardless of whether anybody was listening - Nick Edwards is every inch the alchemist eccentric of yore, an underground mainstay emitting some of the most enveloping, warm and dilapidated vibrations of recent years, and laying them down on a four track cassette recorder." (The Quietus)
DWELLINGS (Tesla Tapes, Gnod)
Dwellings is the solo project of Manchester's Chris Haslam, a core member of Gnod and creator of some of the most forward-thinking machine music around today. His stunning EP last year on Tesla Tapes, Don't Say Nothing, is a relentless, hypnotic and euphoric affair, and after recent live performances in London, Berlin and Prague, and a forthcoming show at the infamous Golden Pudel in Hamburg, it's fair to say that we are very much looking forward to his long-awaited debut in Newcastle!
OTHER FIRES (DISJUNCTIONS)
DISJUNCTIONS resident Other Fires creates intimate and deeply personal electronic music. He has released a limited number of CDRs and is currently working on his debut label release.
