Event information

To celebrate the beginning of the Summer, Night School presents an all day / nighter at The Art School with 9 of our favourite artists, including Molly Nilsson's only UK performance of 2014 and the return of San Franciscan Group Rhoda on Bank Holiday Sunday, May 25th. We'll also have a BBQ and a sprawling late night party.

MOLLY NILSSON: Underground pop chanteuse Molly Nilsson cuts an enigmatic figure in the hinterlands of stardom. Never relenting to the boring machinations of pop industry, Nilsson has created a hermetic sound-world full of romance, pathos and inclusiveness. This is Molly's only scheduled UK show of 2014.

GROUP RHODA: San Franciscan analog House punk Mara Barenbaum - aka Group Rhoda - has, across her 2 LPs for Night School and Not Not Fun, explored alien timbres and bass-heavy space punctuated by psychedelic flurries. Live her compositions stretch out into daring territories, warped into new shapes designed to move bodies.

YONG YONG: Glasgow residents originally hailing from Lisbon, Yong Yong subvert electronic templates and pop dreams into twisted new narratives. Playful, abstract and beautifully errant, Yong Yong are long-term residents at the Art School but never fail to surprise.

MEDDICINE: Polish-born, Industrial synth artist Meddicine's sound has sprawled out over various underground releases while evolving into a fearsome live proposition. Sculpting hard-edged beats and juddering bass, 2014 Meddicine is a hard-edged purging experience.

HAPPY MEALS: Currently prepping their debut for Night School, Happy Meals are a cosmic pop duo beamed into the night from a psychedelic, dry-ice-choked Glasgow alley. As exquisite as the right cocktail in the wrong jacuzzi, Happy Meals treat the dance with the subversion it deserves.

CLIP ART: With his debut LP currently on Instructional Media, Steev Livingston - aka Clip Art - refracts 40 years of pop history through a smudged prism unconcerned with prevailing trends and standards. Reveling in the closeness of DIY practice and the freedom that implies, this is his debut live performance.

UBRE BLANCA: The Glasgow duo of Andy Brown and Joel Stone have moved far beyond the Giallo Horror-Disco impulses into a futuristic realm that is more visceral, heavy and mind-storming. Analog synthesis married with the sound of Brown's hard-hitting trap-work: Ubre Blanca are ceaselessly invigorating.

HAUSFRAU: Smearing the line between artifice and reality, Hausfrau is the pop construct of Glasgow based artist Claudia Nova. Themes of darkness and light are mutated into sensual shades by synth projections and Nova's powerful voice, drawing the listener into a quasi sado-masochistic relationship with the performer-as-oracle.

APOSTILLE: The solo music of Night School care-taker Michael Kasparis has evolved into a visceral, direct performance that both invites and denies passive audience consumption. A punk / house crossover that references the inclusiveness of pop music and the social isolation of noise music.
