A night of electro-acoustic improvisations, juxtaposing some of the UK's most adventurous musicians in a series of intriguing duo situations.
Presented in association with Fataka
SEBASTIAN LEXER / STEVE NOBLE
Sebastian Lexer (piano+) and Steve Noble (drums and percussion) first played together in the winter of 2011 and what seemed like an unlikely, even oppositional, pairing quickly proved itself to be an extremely well-matched one. Noble's sharp vertical hits and Lexer's sustained horizontal textures disrupt, enrich and echo each other, producing music full of complex slants and intricate resonances.
JOHN RUSSELL / SEYMOUR WRIGHT
John Russell (electric guitar) and Seymour Wright (alto saxophone) have played together a handful of times in various settings and there's a productive tension between their distinct sensibilities. Different attitudes towards gesture, texture and harmony collide and combine in highly-charged, astringent music which leaves neither participant unruffled.
ANGHARAD DAVIES / PHIL JULIAN
Both Angharad Davies (violin) and Phil Julian (synthesizer/electronics) produce music of deceptive simplicity, with seemingly serene surfaces revealing multiple layers of subtle activity and deep structure. This will be only the second time they have played together and their first encounter as a duo.
