ELGAR Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61

Peter Fender - conductor
Alexandre Dubach - violin soloist
Trinity Orchestra, Harrow

For the opening concert of Trinity Orchestra's 2014/15 season, we're delighted to welcome back the renowned Swiss violinist Alexandre Dubach, who appeared as soloist with us to great acclaim last year*, to perform Elgar's wonderful Violin Concerto.

Named in Jaoachim Hartnack's book 'Great Violinists of our Time', Dubach is famed for his virtuosity and passion, qualities which will be prodigiously displayed in this concert. Elgar's Violin Concerto is dedicated to the famous violinist Fritz Kreisler, who proclaimed it to be the greatest violin concerto since Beethoven and Brahms. It is virtuosic yet intimate and is not frequently played, so this chance to see it performed by such a prestigious soloist is not to be missed.

In the second half of the concert, under guest conductor Peter Fender, the orchestra will play the romantic Symphony No 3 by Brahms. It is the shortest and most tightly-knit of his symphonies and Clara Schumann wrote of it: "All the movements seem to be of one piece, of one beat of the heart". As one of Brahms's most lyrical and finely crafted works, it remains enduringly popular.

Join us for a pre-concert talk at 7pm through which you can learn more about the evening's music.
