Moving on Music is delighted to welcome back ‘The Stray Birds’ after their sell out Black Box performance last year.

The Pennsylvanian three-piece are one of the hottest bands on the US roots music circuit, since taking America by storm in 2013. Two years on then they have gone on to win a huge fanbase, following triumphant appearances at major festivals around the world including Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, MerleFest and Tonder.

Lauded by fans and critics, The Stay Birds can be found on many ‘End of Year’ round-ups, ‘Albums of the Year’ and ‘Not to Miss’ lists. It’s their live performances however where they really come into their own. All three members sing lead, with Maya de Vitry and Oliver Craven both playing fiddle and guitar, and Charles Muench on upright bass. Their harmonies and interplay are bewildering, creating a sound drawn from the richness of American folk music traditions, spun with a stirring subtlety and grace.

Their latest album ‘Best Medicine’ has been winning even more praise with the likes of Bob Harris of Radio 2 telling them to expect “a kind of folk/bluegrass superstardom” after declaring himself a huge fan.

With their eclectic song selection, incredible musicianship, and glorious close harmonies, the Pennsylvania trio fully merit the overused, but seldom appropriate “must see” tag.
