A spellbinding and magical film about the lives of a Romany family from Yugoslavia. Centred around teenage orphan Perhan and the trials facing him as manhood approaches. Will he be allowed to marry his young love? Will he follow the rest of his family in to a life of crime? As the story develops and the family spreads across Europe, we discover that Perhan has powers that set him apart from his family and community. Filmed in the Romany language, director Emir Kusturica won a Best Director award at Cannes for this epic tale of love, tradition and strangely-moving objects.
